Picture of the day – Chouk the 3 legged elephant.

Taken during a visit to the excellent Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre in Cambodia’s  Takeo Province close to Phnom Penh. Chouk’s a 5 year old male elephant who was rescued in Mondulkiri Province I believe,  in a pretty pitiful state including a serious foot injury that required amputation. He now wears a prosthetic limb and gets around pretty well will his new adoptive mum Lucky!
Artificial elephant limbs don’t come free though and that’s just one of the items Phnom Tamao needs cash for, so if you’re in Phnom Penh on Saturday why don’t you wander down to Sharky’s Bar where  a fund raiser is taking place?
Details on this site along with plenty more info about Wildlife Alliance, the folks at Phnom Tamao, or you can read more about All Points East and elephants on our responsible travel page here.
A lengthier blog post on Phnom Tamao will follow, as soon as I’ve recovered from way too many beers last night!
